Friends, on this hot summer day we’re excited to present a drum cover by our school’s student, Natalia Ostapiuk, of Fall Out Boy’s “Sugar, We’re Goin’ Down”!
drum lessons in Kyiv Checkpoint Drumschool — learn, rehearse, record
Checkpoint is where musicians in Kyiv stop treating practice as a checkbox and start getting real results. If you've been searching for drum lessons in Kyiv Checkpoint Drumschool, you're in the right place — we combine focused technique work, real band experience, and studio time so what you learn actually translates to shows and recordings. Our message is simple: learn with people who play, rehearse where the gear sounds great, and record in rooms designed to inspire.
What makes Checkpoint different
While most studios focus only on tracking or only on lessons, we built an ecosystem. Here you can go from your first paradiddle to cutting a single with the same team. The rooms were acoustically designed — not slapped together — and although the equipment is industry-grade, the vibe is never intimidating. Instructors are active performers: they tour, gig in Kyiv bars, and session for local bands, so lessons are practical and up-to-date.
Checkpoint Drumschool — drum lessons in Kyiv Checkpoint Drumschool
Want to finally lock the groove, feel comfortable with odd time signatures, or record a clean-sounding drum track? Our drum lessons balance fundamentals (rudiments, limb independence, metronome work) with studio skills (microphone placement basics, gain staging, click-track etiquette). Lessons often include short recording sessions so students hear themselves back — nothing teaches dynamics like listening on monitors. We teach electronic and acoustic setups, show you how to tune, and offer practice plans that work even if you only have 20 minutes between shifts.
Services under one roof
- Music school: drums, guitar, sound engineering — group and private lessons
- Recording studio: singles, demos, full albums with production guidance
- Rehearsal rooms: hourly rentals for solo practice or full band rehearsals
- Instrument rental: drum kits, amps, backline for gigs and sessions
Real scenarios we solve
You're a beginner who never got past basic beats and is frustrated staying in one place — we give structure and realistic milestones. You're a band that can never get a tight take — book a few rhythmic clinics and a rehearsal block, then track together. You're a producer who needs a quick, dry room with great preamps — we have that too. The community side matters: people swap tips, help with soundchecks, and sometimes end up in each other's projects. It's low-drama, high-support.
How lessons and bookings work
Lessons are scheduled weekly or in intensive blocks. Rehearsal rooms and recording slots are hourly; we recommend booking a few sessions at once for continuity. Come for a trial lesson or drop in during open practice times to feel the space. Expect straightforward communication — we confirm gear, goals, and a simple plan before your first session so no one shows up guessing.

ЧАСТІ ЗАПИТАННЯ
What should I expect at my first lesson or studio visit?
Your first visit is relaxed — we usually start with a quick chat about goals, a short play-through or demo, and a tour of our rooms. If you’re coming for drum lessons we’ll check your grip, basic posture and kit setup, then suggest a learning path. Many people come nervous and leave excited — no pressure. Bring comfortable shoes and, if you have sticks, your own pair (Vic Firth or similar are fine).
Note: we offer introductions at both our main hub (вул. Саксаганського, 117) and Checkpoint Drumschool (вул. Обсерваторна, 13/15). For specific scheduling and trial availability, please contact us.
Do you teach absolute beginners and children — what ages and levels do you accept?
Yes — we teach everyone from kids picking up their first stick to adults re-starting after years away. Our teachers adapt lessons to age and learning style, using games and simple rhythms for younger pupils and structured technique + theory for older students. We also prepare players for bands and auditions — practical skills, transcribing, groove feel.
If you’re searching for drum lessons in Kyiv Checkpoint Drumschool runs a dedicated beginners’ track with tailored practice plans and gear advice. Contact us to discuss the best teacher match for your age and goals.
What gear and brands do you use in lessons, rehearsals and the recording studio?
We keep industry-standard backline so you can focus on playing: acoustic kits (Yamaha, Pearl, Ludwig), electronic kits (Roland TD series), cymbals (Zildjian, Sabian), sticks (Vic Firth) and pro mics (Shure SM57/SM7B, Neumann U87 in the recording room). Our audio chain includes Universal Audio/Focusrite interfaces and Pro Tools/Logic/ Ableton workflows, plus SSL/API-style summing and outboard compressors for warmth.
Pro tip: if you have a favourite snare or cymbals, bring them — many drummers prefer their own feel. For specific backline requests, call or email ahead.
How does recording at Checkpoint work — demos, EPs or full albums?
Recording with us is collaborative and clear: we start with pre-production (arrangements, click, reference tracks), then tracking, editing, mixing and mastering. Engineers who are active Kyiv musicians offer creative input — choices of mics (Neumann U87 for vocals, room mics for kit), analogue preamps, and mix approaches tailored to rock, pop or electronic projects.
- Step 1: pre-production & estimate
- Step 2: tracking in treated rooms
- Step 3: editing & mixing (in-house or remote)
- Step 4: mastering and delivery (stems/WAV/MP3)
If you want examples of our work or have special needs (live-off-the-floor, remote collaboration), contact us — we’ll walk you through options.
How do I book rehearsal rooms, rent equipment, or join the Checkpoint community?
Booking is flexible — you can reserve rooms or rent backline by phone or email. We manage schedules to suit bands and solo players, and many students reserve recurring slots for practice. Our space is on вул. Саксаганського, 117 with easy access by public transport; limited street parking is available nearby.
Community: we host jams, student showcases and partnerships with local venues and festivals in Kyiv — great for networking. For availability, rental specifics and to join our mailing list, call 063-102-24-80 or 096-432-49-04, or email checkpoint.kyiv.studio@gmail.com.
